CALIBRATE project starts

EU 6FP project CALIBRATE had its kick-off meeting this week in Tallinn. Project aims to support the collaborative use and exchange of learning resources in schools. University of Art and Design Helsinki and Tallinn University are both active in WP3, where we will design and develop open source learning toolbox to support the collaborative use of learning resources. I am involved in design process and responsible for use scenarios.

For me CALIBRATE is very important, because it is directly connected to my doctoral research. In the beginning I was interested in usability problems of learning object metadata, but now my research interests have moved tovards collaborative authoring of learning objects. I think that people in e-learning field can learn a lot from the success of social software and open content.

There is no project homepage yet, but project leader European Schoolnet has made two press releases about the project earlier this year:

We have also set up a wiki for WP3.
